Climate, economy protection, and passivhouses

Climate, economy protection, and passivhouses

As we begin to figure out how to move forward and restart economies, we must look beyond a return to ‘normality’. There is a huge opportunity to reshape things as we emerge from this nightmare scenario, and protection of the environment needs to be placed at the forefront of our recovery.

Getting the light right

Getting the light right

Here’s a selection of a few images taken in the last year. Natural light is what I want to highlight here, the importance of getting the light right to photograph a building and how it’s key in pretty much every photo I take. Photos show an image from a range of projects commissioned during 2019 ranging in scale from a small house extension in Dumfries & Galloway to the ‘Three Graces’ on Liverpools waterfront.

The Snow came down hard on 28th February 2018, bringing Glasgow to a standstill as the ‘Beast From The East’ set in and swept across the country. By the morning of 1st March a further night of heavy snow had brought a fresh layer of the white stuff and people battled the elements to maintain […]

Govan - 'a reconnection' photo story in Edge Condition magazine

Govan – ‘a reconnection’ photo story in Edge Condition magazine

Edge Condition Vol 5 published at the end of January included some of my Govan images in its placemaking edition. I have spent much time in the last few years involved with various initiatives in Govan that attempt to reinterpret Govan’s incredible past story, responding to the problems Govan has faced since deindustrialisation, with the loss of […]

Tenement print completed

So I finally got round to completing this image, which took a fair bit of time but turned out how i wanted in the end. The Glasgow tenements are such an evocative part of the Glasgow sky line and streets. This image coincides with some photography i have been doing recently looking closer at these buildings. Limited edition print run of 20 images and printed at Glasgow Print Studio on archival quality photo rag paper.

Nirvana Nevermind hits 20 years old

Nirvana Nevermind hits 20 years old

Cobain loved a lot of bands from Glasgow…and the sounds and melodies of these bands, such as Teenage Fanclub, seem to resonate in the music Nirvana created. As Nevermind turns 20 years old and the lecacy of Nirvana remains potent, I wrote this review for The Northernline Blog and was published on September 24th the day of the original release.

On the banks of The Clyde, The Riverside Museum.. A scottish triumph of architecture

The opening of Zaha Hadid’s Riverside Museum on the 21st June 2011, is another prime example of cultural regeneration aimed at breathing new life into vacant city sites. The shimmering mass of zinc, being a new home for the city’s transport collection, its design playfully symbolising Glasgow’s industrial and shipbuilding past.

The end of the Red Road Flats, Glasgow

With recent events and the preparation for demolition bringing the attention of journalists and other eyes to focus on the Red Road Flats in Glasgow, the current situation and future of this area is both sensitive and uncertain. In an attempt to put expectations and stereotypes to one side, I was curious as to what […]
