House Extension, John Murray Architect

It is good to get out of the city, away from it all! One of the highlights of this job is exploring and finding new places – I’m always very happy to visit the Solway Coast in Dumfries and Galloway, having been back a few times with my family after shooting this project. A sensitive extension to a traditional cottage, this creates an idyllic place to hide away in all weathers. Surrounded by a stunning garden that overlooks the sea, the new extension sits harmoniously with the original cottage, providing more living and utility areas around a new kitchen space. Designed by architect John Murray this is crisp and contemporary looking internally, whilst not detracting from the unique vernacular style of the old cottage externally. Clad in timber shingles and continuing the interesting timber gutters and downpipes it blends well with the stonework of the cottage and neat details are entwined through the design. The photography for this project was all taken in one afternoon.
