Building on my background in both architecture and fine art, the camera and written words have become central to communicating projects, ideas, and images for a range of clients within the construction, and creative industries. Documenting and celebrating architecture, my photography aims to capture the story of a building through form, function, concept, and place. With all projects I set out to ensure good natural light quality, and try to bring a sense of activity, life, and atmosphere into a set of images.
Tom Manley Photography uses high quality equipment and processing software to offer a complete service from initial investigation through to post production. Providing images for both digital use and print, I work with a range of clients from architects to artists, property owners, housing associations and developers, to cultural organisations and publishers, to capture and communicate design strategies, from feasibility to completion stage.
Aerial photography using drones for location context, surveys and for that eye catching perspective can also be provided, and happy to discuss how drones may assist your project.
My experience working in architecture enables me to bring a unique insight into understanding the built environment, and how best to capture your projects. If you have any questions why not give me a call or email, and I’d be happy to discuss your project with you. Each job is different, but with attention to detail, timing and good lighting conditions, images can be customised to meet your requirements. All images are high quality publishable images, approved with clients during the editing process.
I’m happy to discuss photography projects across Scotland and UK, and with a growing interest in how the built environment responds to climate change, and how we as a society adapt to the urgency required, have recently taken on a fully electric vehicle that will help reduce my emissions.
An ongoing theme throughout my work is the changing face of land, regeneration and place identity. I combine photography work with consultancy on urban and cultural regeneration issues, as well as writing and blogging about architecture & creative activity. Urban and Architectural Photography can be valuable for investigating a site’s context, and exploring narratives before any building has been created. Having worked with various editorial publications such as The Architects Journal, Urban Realm Magazine, The Herald, and A10 Magazine, I have a good network of contacts for further promotion and publication of projects.
The challenge is to try and bring this together, start new collaborations and meet new creative clients, whilst continuing to do good work for many repeat clients. Besides contributing images and text to various publications and blogs, I continue to develop digital imagery, graphics, portraits and printmaking. A mix of personal and commissioned work can also be seen on Flickr.
