I was pleased to hear recently that this image ‘Dear Green City’ was chosen as a finalist and runner up in the Urban Greenspace category of the 2024 Scottish Nature Photography Awards. There are some beautiful winning images celebrating wildlife and the natural environment.

Urban Greenspace Dear Green City
‘Dear Green City’

The image shows Glasgow’s Elder Park, originally gifted to the people of Govan in 1885 by philanthropist Isabella Elder, the wife of famous respected shipbuilder, John Elder. Glasgow has been a huge source of inspiration for me, so it was great to hear that an image that celebrates the city and its connection to nature and open space was selected as a finalist in the Urban Greenspace category.

Working as an architectural photographer and through my personal work it is a joy to discover new angles and perspectives on the city. Here I was photographing the refurbishment of Elder Park Library in Govan, for Glasgow Life, using a drone to capture the spectacular wider landscape of the park, amongst new shipbuilding facilities and tenement lined streets, with the river flowing out of the city to the distant hills.
