Loretto Housing Association, Supported Accommodation

Images from a project for Loretto Housing Association commissioned in 2012, documenting some of their work over a 30 year period. The housing association provides accommodation for a range of groups of people from homeless, to elderly people, folk with learning difficulties or alcohol and drug problems. Today they have grown into one of the leading providers in this area working with many of the best designers, providing safe, secure and community based housing. Having worked with Loretto on many occasions since to photograph new architectural projects, I am always impressed by the quality of design and intent with these schemes. Most of my work on this project was focusing on the architecture and the built form of the developments but initially I met several of the residents and did some documentary style portraits with residents who shared their appreciation for their homes with me, explaining what it meant to them – basically a shared human right for a sense of safety, community, freedom, choice, and a place to find one’s feet.
