House Extension, John Murray Architect

Always good to get out of the city and definitely one of the highlights of this job is exploring and finding new places – I’ll definitely be back to the Solway Coast in Dumfries and Galloway, having spent a few days here with my family after shooting this project. A lovely extension to provide more living space and utility areas around a new kitchen space, this creates an idyllic place to hide away in all weathers. Surrounded by stunning countryside the new extension sits harmoniously with the original cottage. Designed by architect John Murray the design is crisp and contemporary looking internally, whilst not detracting from the unique vernacular style of the old cottage externally. Clad in timber shingles and continuing the interesting timber gutters and downpipes it blends well with the stonework of the cottage and neat details are entwined through the design. The photography for this project was all taken in one afternoon.
